GH deficiency in childhood is treated with biosynthetic human GH, which is now widely available. Two to four units should be given subcutaneously, daily, and linear growth plotted on a growth chart. With plentiful supplies of GH, therapy in adults with GH deficiency is now possible, and its effects are being studied in detail. Early results suggest that muscle volume and strength may increase, and adipose tissue may decrease, with GH treatment. Furthermore, there may be an improvement in well-being (see below).
